Albion strengthens Tech Team with three new hires

Albion has added three new recruits to its technology team as part of its strategic expansion in the sector.

Catriona McDonald and Nadine Torbey have joined the firm to help with tech investments from Albion’s VCT portfolios. Tanel Ozdemir has also joined the investment team at Albion Capital as an analyst on the UCL Technology Fund.

The hires support the evolution of Albion’s investment strategy towards a greater focus on growth and innovation, and will enable it to seek more opportunities in its specialisms, including data analytics, cybersecurity, digital health, automation and martech.

Catriona McDonald, a graduate of Harvard University, joins from Goldman Sachs, where she specialised in renewable technology and power in roles across the firm’s New York and London offices. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, she worked for a technology-focused private equity firm in New York, covering fintech and healthcare.

Nadine Torbey, who attended the American University of Beirut and Brown University, joins after more than three years working in Lebanon for Berytech Fund Management. During her time at Berytech, Torbey witnessed the early formation of the venture capital ecosystem in the Middle East, and contributed to the management of Berytech’s Fund II, a $52 million Venture Capital fund investing in the knowledge economy.

Tanel Ozdemir was previously an investment analyst at Newable Ventures, having completed his PhD at UCL, where his research focused on developing synthetic biological tools for microbiome engineering. Ozdemir will help manage the UCL Technology Fund, which is dedicated to investing in intellectual property commercialisation opportunities arising from UCL’s world-class research base, focusing in particular on the physical and life sciences.

Patrick Reeve, Managing Partner, Albion Capital says: “These appointments are testament to our commitment to the tech space and the exciting range of potential investments we see across a variety of sectors. Tanel, Catriona and Nadine have all shown incredible aptitude in supporting innovative and prestigious investment projects across the globe. Their addition to the Albion team will not only complement the outstanding expertise of our tech and life sciences team, but add specialist experience in areas where we see strong potential.”
